What we do

SHAOLIN WHITE CRANE AND LONG FIST, (BAI HE, CHANGQUAN) (EXTERNAL TRAINING)

Shaolin WhiteCrane specialises in hand techniques and short range fighting, while Shaolin Long Fist specializes in kicking and long range fighting. Both are trained in YMAA external styles training, and the techniques of both styles are used in sparring practice.

TAIJIQUAN (INTERNAL TRAINING)

YMAA focuses mainly on the traditional Yang Style Taijiquan, which originated from Yang, Ban-Hou.  The Tai Chi form is a series of slow moving exercises (postures), which are performed in a relaxed manner. The body is relaxed and the mind absorbed in each movement. This course teaches part one of the Yang style classical Tai Chi as well as aspects of Taiji Qigong, for increased health benefits.

QIN NA (CHIN NA)

Qin Na, “Seize and Control” is known for its effectiveness in controlling opponents through its techniques of locking joints or muscles/tendons, thereby setting up the next step of strikes, cavity presses and other potential damage to opponents. Chinese Qin Na is the root of the Japanese martial arts of Aikido and Jujitsu and is part of most Chinese martial styles. Clearly it is a useful addition to any martial style.

SHAOLIN SPARRING (SAN DA OR SAN SHOU)

Sparring is the training, which most resembles real combat with an enemy. Body protection is required in sparring.  YMAA sparring is divided into ten stages, from the most basic reaction training to full contact sparring

KUNG FU FOR KIDS

Our Kung Fu for kids programme is designed to instil confidence, enhance concentration and improve co-ordination into our young members.  We have a comprehensive syllabus to teach Kung Fu to kids from the age of 5 up to 13.  Our motto is “play is the way” and this has been the key to our success in teaching thousands of kids over the years
