East Coast Open - 5th of July 2009

This was Irelands very first Sanshou competition and was the first event of many under the ICBA.

We had 4 fighters enter this competiton. Our results were:

Aengus Boyle - Gold (-70kg)
Ben Barkhoff - Silver (- 85kg)
Sean Boyd - Silver (- 75kgs)
Womens
Laura O'Neill - Silver (-70kg)

The West coast open was run on the 16th of August 2009 but unfortunately this clashed with a number of events for our club

2009 National Championships 22nd of November 2009

Brief report
We had three fighters compete at the Sanshou National Championships this year.
Sean Boyd was narrowly beaten after a fourth round in his first fight of the championships. He'll be back next year, and will be a whole year older (at 17!!!). Lookout for this guy in a couple of years!
Shane Gethings won his first fight, but lost his second in a close fight, he lost the third place 'fightoff; on the pushout rule! Shane has extensive Kickboxing experience and once he re-shapes his game for the Sanshou format will be a force to be reckoned with.
Aengus Boyle our East coast Champion opened his National Championships by beating the West coast Champion with a second round knock out. He then won his next fight on points but unfortunately lost the final to a very solid experienced fighter. Again Aengus hasn't even come close to reaching his peak, and will undoubtedly claim a place on the Irish squad in the years to come.
